Today I’ve got a mission: to get your kids writing even when they think they hate it!
Tune in for one of the most popular activities I’ve ever designed for kids. We’re going to show them that writing is something they can both do and enjoy. Promise!
Supplies:
A favorite book (child selects it)
Sticky notes
A slew of implements for writing:
Sidewalk chalk (for fences, driveways, sidewalks, decks…)
Oil pastels (for sandpaper, poster board, butcher paper, card stock)
Window markers (sliding glass doors, mirrors, bedroom windows)
Fountain pens
Colored pencils
Charcoal
Paint brushes
Lipstick
Fabric pens
Finger paints
Mustard in a squeeze bottle
A multitude of surfaces:
Sliding glass door
Mirror
Bedroom wall (covered with butcher paper, if preferred)
Paper bag
Wrapping paper
Fence post, deck
Driveway, sidewalk
T-shirt
Poster board
Picture frame
Bottom of shoe
Sandpaper
Paper plates
Once the child has selected a book, send your child to a hidey hole or corner of the couch to hunt through the book for favorite words and sentences. Put sticky notes on the ones they like.
Then using a surface + implement, have them copy that language! Voila! Copywork: done!
Enjoy. This can be a bit messy but it is so worth it.
