Poetry teatime is an essential part of our week, and has been for several years. If we ever have to miss it due to a schedule conflict, there is much hand-wringing on the part of the children.

My children are all fairly young, so I'm under no illusions that what attracts them to the table is, first and foremost, the opportunity to eat a treat on a weekday afternoon. But at the same time, I've been pleasantly surprised by how much seems to stick.

I recently had a poetry teatime payday moment. I asked my children to go put a box of hand-me-down clothing "halfway up the stairs" for me to grab later. No sooner had I uttered those words than I was treated to a spontaneous chorus of A. A. Milne's poem "Halfway Up the Stairs" by all three children. It was thrilling!

I just listened to your poetry podcast and your poem at the end made me tear up, and then Melissa's poem inspired me to go and write a poem about the stage of life my children are currently in. Thanks so much for a spot of joy in an otherwise rough week! I hope you continue including poetry in your podcasts.
