Friday Freewrite: The Ruler of All Grasshoppers
Freewriting is that wonderful key that unlocks the writer within.
Today’s writing prompt:
Congratulations! Imagine you’re a grasshopper and you’ve just been made The Royal Ruler of All Grasshoppers! Grasshoppers are usually solitary but sometimes they gather in huge groups of millions or more. And now, you’re in charge of them.
Write 10 rules grasshoppers must follow.
Tip: For ideas, you might research a bit about grasshoppers (for instance, they ‘spit’ a brown liquid and can jump about 3 feet or 1 meter).
Share your child’s freewrite in the comments if you’d like! (Or feel free to share your freewrite too!)
New to freewriting?
Freewriting is the vehicle by which we trick our inner selves into expressing the words and ideas that we want to share but are afraid won’t come out right on paper if we do. So, read the freewriting prompt, set the timer for 5-10 minutes then have your child write whatever comes to mind. We invite you to freewrite too, at the same time as your kids. Just keep the pencil moving until “ding”—when the timer rings!

These have been so wonderful, and a great creative break for myself. My son made me laugh out loud with his rules, my favorite, "Never surrender to spiders!"
Love these free writes! Please continue to send these via email even during the summer.
